The cost depends on the area to be covered, the material chosen and access requirements. UPVC cladding is the most affordable option, composite sits in the middle, and natural timber is typically the most expensive. We provide free surveys and written quotations so you can compare your options.
In most cases, cladding falls under permitted development and does not require planning permission, provided it does not project more than 75mm from the wall. However, if your property is listed or in a conservation area, additional approvals may be needed. We can advise on your specific situation.
UPVC cladding typically lasts 20 to 30 years with minimal maintenance. Composite cladding has a similar lifespan. Natural timber cladding can last much longer if properly maintained, though it will need periodic treatment or repainting to protect it from the weather.
Cladding itself provides a modest improvement in weather protection but is not a significant insulator. However, insulation boards can be fitted between the battens behind the cladding to substantially improve the thermal performance of the wall. We can advise on insulation options if this is a priority.
Yes, in most cases. We fix battens to the wall through the render, creating a ventilated cavity behind the cladding. This approach works well on tired or cracked render and avoids the cost and mess of render removal.
UPVC and composite cladding need very little maintenance, just an occasional wash to remove dirt and algae. Timber cladding needs periodic treatment or repainting, typically every three to five years depending on the exposure and the type of finish used.
